A faster, simpler website for England's blue economy cluster, with every enquiry landing in one inbox.

We moved Mereweg off a heavy WordPress build onto a fast static site, kept every existing address, and wired five separate forms into one reliable email flow.

The organisation

Mereweg brings together industry, science, non-profits and government to support England's move to a sustainable blue economy. Its website is how startups, members and partners find out about the cluster and get in touch, so it has to be quick, credible and easy for a small team to run.

The problem

The site had been built on WordPress with a page builder. It worked, but it was slow to load, awkward to edit and needed constant plugin updates. Enquiries arrived through five different forms, each wired up separately, which made it hard to be sure every message was reaching the team. Email from the domain also needed attention so that replies landed in inboxes rather than spam folders.

What we did

  • Rebuilt every page as a lightweight static site, keeping the existing web addresses so search rankings and shared links kept working. The old home address now redirects cleanly.
  • Gave each page its own title, description, canonical address and share image, plus a sitemap ready for Google Search Console.
  • Connected all five forms (contact, join us, the join-us popup, the footer sign-up and the membership enquiry) to a single serverless function.
  • Set that function to email each submission to the team through Resend, with Reply-To set to the sender, so answering an enquiry is one click.
  • Added spam protection with a hidden honeypot field, server-side validation and length limits.
  • Reviewed the domain's email setup in Microsoft 365 so messages from Mereweg are trusted by recipients' mail servers.
No plugins to patch, no database to secure, and one place where every enquiry arrives.

The result

Mereweg now has a site that loads quickly from a global network, costs very little to host and is far easier to keep up to date. Every form follows the same tested path into the team's inbox, ready to answer. Next on the list is moving member newsletters onto the same domain so invites and updates come from one trusted sender.
